Russia is “alarmed” by the news of the death of Qasem Soleimani, which could disrupt the situation in the region, the Russian Foreign Ministry said in a statement published Friday on its official website.
"The news of the death of the commander of the Quds Force of the IRGC (Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps of Iran) Qasem Soleimani in an attack launched by the US armed forces at the Baghdad airport is alarming," the statement said. "Washington's action will have serious consequences in terms of regional peace and stability."
"We assume that such actions do not contribute to finding solutions to the complex problems that have accumulated in the Middle East, but lead to a new round of escalating tensions in the region," the Ministry added.
The Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman, Maria Zakharova, previously wrote on her official Facebook page that such an escalation "will impact millions of people."
"To condemn the attacks on their embassies, the states go to the UN Security Council with a draft declaration," said Zakharova. “Washington did not go to the Security Council. So, the reaction of the world did not interest them. They were interested in changing the situation in the region ... This will not lead to anything but the escalation of tensions, which will certainly impact millions of people. ”
